Eastern State Penitentiary

Last weekend we went to a haunting old prison in Philadelphia: Eastern State Penitentiary. A prison that once housed Al Capone in a relatively comfortable cell.

The place itself is half derelict and depression and hopelessness seep out of the walls. After a couple of hours of taking pictures, we had to sit in the sunshine to feel warm again. It has taken me a good few days to get the feeling of cold and spookiness out of my bones!

These are a few of my pictures from the day…

These photographs are really good and I can imagine the atmosphere there!

I look forward to visiting various places around the US when I finally become an expat there!

      Hi Molly
thanks for the comments – where are you moving to here? There are so many places to explore – it is as if each state has it’s own unique personality to get to know.
Even after 3 years, the size of it is still bewildering!
